Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to trim the trees near power lines?

When trees grow within a metre of an insulated electric service line and 2 metres of a bare wire service line, they become a potential danger hazard. When branches fall, or strong winds push the tree towards the wireline, it can cause the power lines to clash. This can cut the power to your home, start a fire, or cause the power line to fall to the ground where it could injure or electrocute someone.

Why do I have to hire a professional to do it?

You should always engage professional tree care technicians like Trav's Tree Services to perform any tree trimming near electrical wires. We've got the skills and expertise to trim trees safely, and we're fully insured and hold public liability cover. If you try to trim your tree yourself, you could be at risk of hurting yourself or others, and end up with an insurance lawsuit.

Can you cut tree limbs if they actually touch the power line?

If any tree limbs already touch or lie on the service lines, we may need to consult the power company. We may need to ask them to temporarily cut the power supply to your home before we begin the electric line clearance and vegetation management. We'll add this to our considerations when we perform the initial on-site evaluation.

Do you bring your own equipment?

Yes. At Trav's Trees, we bring all our own equipment and machinery for every job. We use industry-leading gear and comply with all OH&S practices. This helps us ensure all tree branches are kept at a safe distance from power lines and overhead wires.
