All residential areas within Banyule are subject to tree protection overlays under the Banyule Planning Scheme. Before you remove a tree, you will need to apply for a permit and your request will be assessed by Banyule City Council. The assessment criteria includes the size and species of the tree and whether it is protected by the council.
The council has a Significant Trees and Areas of Vegetation Register that contains a list of the significant and protected trees located in Rosanna. The Banyule council requires a permit for removing, pruning and lopping of trees on a neighbouring property, however prior permission must be sought to access a neighbour's property and to carry out any works.
Possums have a bad habit of destroying tree foliage, and making homes in roofs. As they are protected by the National Park Wildlife Act, possum guards are used to stop them climbing up trees.
